Screen beauty: Shriya Saran took centre stage at the premiere of Midnight's Children, at Odeon West End on Sunday night

British novelist Sir Salman Rushdie brought a touch of Bollywood to the 56th BFI London Film Festival on Sunday night.
The controversial writer won the Booker Prize in 1981 for his novel Midnight's Children, and he has finally seen his words brought to life on the big screen.
Leading the way at the British premiere was the beautiful Shriya Saran who wowed the Odeon West End in her traditional style of dress.

A great team: While Shriya was the star of the movie, Salman wrote the script based on his award winning book

The 30-year-old actress looked sublime in a green sari that was lined with a pink and gold trim design.
She completed her immaculate look by wearing a blue velvet top underneath while keeping her hair up in a neat style.
Shriya was joined by her co-star in the movie actor Satya Bhabha, who also looked rather dapper in a midnight blue two piece suit.

Former EastEnders star Preeya Kalidas also attended the premiere but opted to dress down in a short trench coat.

British comedian Billy Connolly arrived with Australian author Kathy Lette with her son to see the film.

The movie's director Deepa Mehta kept up with tradition and also wore a gold and black sari as she joined writer/producer Salman for some photographs.
The film is yet to find a distributor in India as no one wants to touch the film owing to the controversial content.
It portrays India after Independence and depicts the uncertain political environment during the era.

Industry insiders feel that sections of the political fraternity may deem it too volatile for the audience
The book has critical descriptions of late PM Indira Gandhi, who suspended democracy in India between 1975 and 1977 to declare Emergency.
